Salvation Army Cold Night Shelter Open Dates

With the impending cold front moving through our area this weekend, The Salvation Army will have the Cold Night Shelter open on Saturday, January 13, 2018; Sunday, January 14, 2018; and Monday, January 15, 2018.   The shelter is open from 7pm to 7am and is located at The Salvation Army, 712 S. School Avenue, Lecanto, FL  34461.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a holiday weekend, therefore the only official bus pick-ups for ALL THREE DAYS (Saturday, Sunday and Monday (due to holiday) is at "Connections" in Hernando scheduled for 6:45PM.  The next morning a bus will make a return trip back to "Connections" only.

County Accepting Applications for Mobile Home Park or RV Park Vacancy Adjustment for Fire Protection Assessment

In accordance with Resolution 2013-115 Section 5, each owner of mobile home park or recreational vehicle (RV) park property will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the vacancy rate in space occupancy within such property and receive a vacancy adjustment to the Fire Protection Assessments that was approved on July 23, 2013.

Applications are now available and can be submitted to the County on or before May 1st. A determination will be based on evidence of a vacancy rate provided by the property owner. The vacancy rate shall be defined as the percentage of available spaces within a mobile home or RV park that were vacant between January 1, 2017 through and including December 31, 2017. 

The following information must be given to be considered eligible for a vacancy adjustment:

•              Applicant must be the owner of the property

•              Applicant shall complete the application in full, including the vacancy rate calculation (formula provided on application)

Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted in person or by mail. No applications submitted by email will be considered. The property owner must be able to provide the Tax Parcel ID number when completing the application and signature is required.

County Accepting Applications for Annual Vacancy reimbursement for the Residential Solid Waste MSBU

In accordance with Ordinance 97-02, Section 18, an owner of improved real property who can demonstrate that a dwelling unit thereon was unoccupied and vacant during the entire Assessment Period in which the Annual Disposal Assessment was imposed, may request reimbursement of the residential Solid Waste MSBU.

Applications are now available and can be submitted to the County before 5:00 p.m. on June 29th.  A determination will be based on evidence of a vacancy provided by the property owner, January 1, 2017 through and including December 31, 2017.

The following information must be given to be considered eligible for a vacancy reimbursement:

•              Applicant must be the owner of the property

•              Applicant shall complete the application in full

•              Applicant shall provide proof that the tax bill was paid in full prior to April 30th.

•              Applicant shall provide proof of non-occupancy in the form of minimal usage utility bills, January 1st through December 31st

•              Application must be received by 5:00 p.m. on June 29th.

Applications and supporting documentation must be submitted in person or by mail. No applications submitted by email will be considered. The property owner must be able to provide the Alternate Key (AK) number when completing the application and signature is required.

What’s New at Citrus County Community Centers

The Senior Community Centers in Citrus County provide meeting places throughout the County for Citrus County residents of all ages. Centers offer people a place to go for nutritious meals, social activities and an array of programs such as health screenings, health and consumer education, creative arts, computer classes, dancing, exercises, and more!

The centers provide a friendly atmosphere bringing fun, laughter and companionship into the lives of our senior citizens. The centers also offer volunteer opportunities where people can contribute their experience and skills in meaningful ways.

Here are just a few of the exciting programs being offered at area Centers in 2018:

Zumba Gold at East Citrus Community Center

Moving, Grooving, and Smiling.  Classes can be done sitting or standing.      

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. 

Cost $5.00 per 1-hour session.
