Open House for Garcia Point Sewer Project Announced

Category: Press Releases       Posted By: Denise Gallagher       Year: 2019

The Citrus County Utility Planning and Engineering Division will be hosting a Garcia Point Sewer Project Open House on May 15, 2019, from 7:00pm and 9:00pm. The open house will be held at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park (Florida Room), located at 4150 S Suncoast Blvd. Homosassa FL 34446.

This meeting will offer citizens the opportunity to gather information regarding the upcoming sewer project to serve the homes located on Garcia Point by visiting stations/tables that focus on different aspects of the project. During the Open House, citizens will have the opportunity to discuss the project timeline, communication during construction and costs associated with this project. The proposed project limits include W. Gregory Court, W. Cap Lane, W. Gingerly Path, W Silk Oak Path, S. Island Drive, W. Island Court and a select number of properties on S. Garcia Point.

The primary goal of this project is to improve water quality on the Homosassa River and Spring by providing sanitary sewer service to areas adjacent to Garcia Point. Aging septic tanks currently serving this area have been identified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as a major contributor of deteriorating water quality in the Homosassa Springshed and may also adversely impact the quality of private drinking water wells.

Project development costs, along with other costs associated with connecting to the centralized waste water system will also be presented at the open house. For residents living on privately owned roads, a representative from the County Land Section will be available to answer questions regarding easements as well as provide notary service to complete the documents

As the project moves forward, the County has identified the importance of communicating the project’s progress to the residents and will make this effort a top priority. The County will provide on-site project signage as well as weekly email updates to push the information out to the residents on a regular basis throughout the entire project. If you would like to be included on the informational email list, there will be a sign-up sheet available at the Open House.
