BOCC proclaims Breastfeeding Support month in Citrus County

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners presented a Proclamation at their regular meeting on July 23, 2019 proclaiming the month of August 2019 as Breastfeeding Support Month.

Breastfeeding is recognized by the Florida West Coast Breastfeeding Task Force, the Florida Department of Health, Florida Breastfeeding Coalition, and major medical organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Center of Disease Control, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the National Association of WIC Directors, the Office of Women’s Health, UNICEF and WHO. 

Breastfeeding the preferred method of infant feeding and it is vital for families to make informed choices about the health and care of infants. The Florida Department of Health and partner organizations support increased efforts by hospital staff, providers, employers and all Floridians to not only encourage, but to provide tangible support for breastfeeding.

The Board of County Commissioners recognizes August 2019 as Breastfeeding Support in Citrus County and calls the observance to the attention of all citizens.

Two free Florida-friendly gardening workshops in August

Right plant, right place

Citrus County Utilities Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program is offering a free gardening workshop on August 6, 2019 from 2:00-3:30 pm.   Once established the right plant is often sustainable without additional supplemental watering.  Choosing appropriate plant materials, planting them correctly and managing them wisely, ensures a gardens success. Classes are held at the Citrus County Extension Service building located at 3650 W Sovereign Path in Lecanto. Creating a Florida-friendly Landscape

Citrus County Utilities Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program is offering a free gardening workshop on August 20, 2019 from 2:00-3:30 pm.  Plan before you plant is an important concept when developing sustainable garden ideas.  Basic principles of landscape design include site evaluation, selection and placement of the ‘right plant’ and establishment practices for newly installed sustainable gardens.  “What is and how to create a Florida-friendly Landscape” is the theme of this workshop.    Classes are held at the Citrus County Extension Service building located at 3650 W Sovereign Path in Lecanto.  Please contact Steven Davis at (352) 527-5708 to confirm your participation or register at https://ccufflprogram.eventbrite.com.

Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization to Meet

The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at the Lecanto Government Building, 3600 West Sovereign Path, Room 166, Lecanto, Florida.

Items scheduled on the agenda include, but are not limited to:

•             2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)

•             Transportation Disadvantaged Planning Grants

•             Summary from MPO meeting on June 18, 2019

•             Major Update to the Hernando County Transit Development Plan (TDP)

•             Appointments to MPO Committees

•             Citrus County Transit Annual TDP Progress Report

•             Amendment to MPO Agreement with Florida Department of Transportation

•             Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) FY 2020-2024 Amendment

•             Discussion MPO Budget

•             Discussion Three Sisters Multiuse path
