The Citrus County Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board (LCB) of the Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2019, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the Citrus Transit Center, 1300 South Lecanto Highway, Lecanto, Florida.

Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization August Meeting Recap

The Hernando/Citrus Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) met on August 20, 2019 in a public meeting at the Lecanto Government Center, 3600 W. Sovereign Path, Room 166, Lecanto FL. The points of interest from the meeting are below:

•             The MPO Board appointed a representative to their Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), and their Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

•             The MPO Board reviewed the Hernando County Transit Development Plan (TDP) and concurred with the submittal to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

•             The Hernando/Citrus MPOs Planning Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation was modified to reflect the funding that was carried forward in the Unified Planning Work Program for FY 2020.

•             The Annual Roll-Forward amendment to the Transportation Improvement Program for FY 2020-2024 was approved to reflect projects carried forward into the Work Program.

•             The Board approved the Transportation Disadvantaged Planning Grants with the Commission for the Transportation Disadvantaged.  The grants provide funding to the MPO to administer the Transportation Disadvantaged Program for both Hernando County and Citrus County.

•             The Board discussed the MPO budget and issues relating to the reimbursable grant funding.  The Board had many questions and requested the issue be discussed further at the September 17, 2019, meeting.

•             The funding and phasing of the Three Sisters Springs Multipurpose path were discussed by the Board.  Further review and discussion will be required among the project partners.

Bicentennial Pool Open Labor Day

Bicentennial Park Pool will be open regular posted hours on Monday, September 2, 2019. The pool is located at 8145 W. Bicentennial Park Drive Crystal River, Fl. 34429.  The schedule is as follows:

County Offices Closed in Observance of the Labor Day Holiday

Citrus County Government offices will be closed Monday, September 2, 2019 in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

  • All branches of the Citrus County Library System will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019. Normal hours will resume the next day.
  • Citrus County Transit will be closed Monday, September 2, 2019.
  • Animal Services will be closed Monday, September 2, 2019.
  • Veterans Services Office will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019.

Citrus County Fire Rescue, five complete new firefighter orientation

Citrus County Fire Rescue held a new hire pinning ceremony on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Fire Rescue Training Center in Lecanto. The Citrus County Fire Rescue’s five new firefighters are Alan Blake, Michael D’Acunti, Matthew Henriquez, Corey Key and Christopher Pericht.

In the audience were friends, family and firefighters to participate in recognizing the newly hired firefighters who had successfully completed the new hire orientation and were now ready to take their oath. Speakers at the event were Commissioner Jimmie T. Smith, Assistant County Administrator Steven Lachnicht and Fire Chief Craig Stevens.

Citrus County Fire Rescue’s mission is “Dedicated to Exceptional Service through Prevention, Response and Education.” “We are all very proud of them. Some of the new hire firefighters went through our fire academy for firefighter I & II and are now starting their career here with the department.” said Citrus County Fire Chief Craig Stevens. 

The Mission of the Citrus County fire-training center is “Providing quality and well-trained firefighters.” Since its doors opened in October 1999, the Citrus County Fire Training Center has been committed to providing quality training for Citrus County Firefighters. The Training Center offers over 20 certificate Programs of Study. Not only does the Center provide a quality training facility for our volunteers and career firefighters, it is also a State Certified Training Center as well open to anyone. The courses we offer allows our firefighters the ability to obtain state certifications in a variety of specialty courses.
