SUBJECT: The Role of the Historical Resources Manager and the relationship to other agencies and organizations ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: Community Services

POLICY:

The historical resources of Citrus County significantly contribute to the quality of life and provide economic enhancement and stability to our County’s future development with the program procedures defined below. 

PROCEDURE:

The Historical Resources Manager shall plan, direct and budget for the identification, collection, preservation, interpretation and presentation of the historical resources of the county. Historical Resources as defined by Florida Statute 267 are those items and information which depict the way the people of this county lived during the prehistoric and historic eras. This history is reflected by sites, structures, artifacts, archival materials and folklore traditions.
 
In addition to administering the office, the Historical Resources Manager, under the auspices of the Department of Community Services, will interact with and advise other agencies regarding the preservation of historical resources within Citrus County. Those agencies include, but are not limited to: 

  1. The Citrus County Historical Society, Inc., a non-profit organization which supports the identification, collection, preservation, interpretation and presentation of the historical resources of Citrus County, Florida; 
  2. History Associates, a group of volunteers who assist in various functions to carry out the goals of the Historical Resources Office; 
  3. The Board of County Commissioners, through county departments which have responsibilities regarding future land use when impacting historically significant property such as those involved in comprehensive planning, public works, land section, heritage tourism relative to historic buildings, sites and cemeteries;
  4. The Historical Resources Advisory Board, a Board appointed citizens Board committed to preserving the historical resources of Citrus County for future generations; and
  5. Individuals and groups or organizations which own historical real estate property in Citrus County.
