What Is An MSBU?

MSBU stands for "Municipal Services Benefit Unit" and the Citrus Springs MSBU is the organization of Citrus Springs for the care of services needed in the community.

Citrus Springs does not have a deeded or required Property Owner's Association. Several property owners requested an MSBU and in 1993, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners adopted the MSBU by county ordinance. The County collects an assessment with the annual regular real estate taxes.

The MSBU Advisory Council meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 9:00 a.m., or as may otherwise be announced, in the Citrus Springs Community Center. This is an open meeting and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. The MSBU is governed by the Board of County Commissioners with the assistance of the MSBU Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is required to function under the Florida Sunshine Laws.

The MSBU Advisory Council is made up of volunteers, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and is responsible for both short and long range plans for the revenue generated by this assessment. To date, the accomplishments have been many, including entrance improvements, safety street lighting, median landscaping and two employees dedicated to the maintenance of Citrus Springs. The Advisory Council represents ALL property owners and the projects of the MSBU must benefit ALL property owners.
