Citrus County Parks and Recration Unveils Evening Virtual Programs

There is a lot going on this summer and fall with Citrus County Parks and Recreation. The Division just wrapped up several successful weeks of online art camp for middle school students and it occurred to staff - the sky’s the limit with virtual programming.

“We had a blast with our Virtual Camp Color Rush for budding artists this summer,” said Recreation Program Specialist Andrea Cuccaro. “And we thought, we can do a lot more with this forum, so we are!” Upcoming new programming includes Virtual Trivia Nights and Virtual Open Mic Nights. “We hosted live online trivia as part of our camps for kids this summer, and had tons of fun, and we want to offer this program for the greater community. We know we have some trivia fanatics out there!” she added. Virtual Trivia Nights will be hosted on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 6:30pm excluding holidays.

“Our virtual Open Mic Night is an extension of our live Open Mic Night on the last Wednesday of every month at Central Ridge Community Center,” said Manny Coimbre, Sports and Events Coordinator of the Division. “We’re keeping the event on the final Wednesday of the month and we’ve got an emcee to host performers over video chat for an audience who want to hear live music from local talent in Citrus County, and honestly, the performers are really great!” he added. Virtual Open Mic Night will be hosted on the final Wednesday of each month between 6:30pm and 9:30pm.

How it works: Sign up for either or both events online by going to their secure network at apm.activecommunities.com/citruscountyparks. Sign up at least 24 hours prior to the event and you will receive the video chat link over email on the day of the event.

There is more virtual programming to come, and Parks and Recreation staff is always taking suggestions from the community.
