Clerk’s office goes Purple to raise awareness of domestic violence. In recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Clerk of Courts Angela Vick reminds all Citrus County residents that her local Court Clerks’ and Comptrollers’ office serves as a resource to people both directly and indirectly affected by domestic violence throughout the year.

“Domestic violence does not discriminate,” Clerk Vick says. “Anyone can be a victim regardless of age, race, religion, or gender. There is no shame in seeking protection from someone who means you harm, even if that person is a family member.” Domestic violence not only affects victims, but also family and friends. The Citrus County Clerk of Courts is an advocate for putting an end to the violence. Our Family Services Injunction team helps those affected by domestic, repeat, sexual, dating, and stalking violence obtain restraining orders for protection.

Nationally, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will be the victim of some kind of domestic violence in their lifetimes. More than 100,000 domestic violence incidents are reported in Florida each year, and many are never reported. Every day, Florida’s Court Clerks and Comptrollers actively work with local sheriffs’ offices and organizations across the state to help survivors achieve justice and safety for them and their families. It is each Clerk’s duty to serve as their advocate and support system.

Our Deputy Clerks approach each situation with the seriousness and urgency domestic violence survivors deserve. For the survivor’s protection, Deputy Clerks use complete confidentiality and discretion throughout the process, from filing reports to ensuring victims are connected with advocate programs.
