County Beaches to Reopen

Citrus County reopens Fort Island Gulf Beach and Hernando Beach at 8:00am on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, for recreational activities following CDC guidelines and Citrus County Health Department recommendations. Beach hours are sunrise to sunset seven days a week.

Federal and state social distancing/gathering guidelines remain in place. Groups of more than 10 will not be permitted, and social distancing of six feet is necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Restrooms at the beaches are open.

Let’s do it right - The CDC, as a reminder, encourages reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses by practicing everyday preventative actions, including:

  • Visit beaches that are close to your home
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others ("social distancing") and take other steps to prevent COVID-19
  • If you are sick or were recently exposed to COVID-19 STAY HOME
  • Groups of less than 10 people –ALWAYS avoid congregating on the beach at this time

The County iscommitted to the well-being of our citizens and asks everyone to do their part in getting the facts before sharing information. We are following COVID-19 Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and direction from the Florida Department of Health to keep our employees, their families and the community healthy.
