Taking Advantage of the Closure - West Citrus Community Center Gets Roof Repair

Citrus County Facilities Division is taking advantage of programs that are temporarily on hold and stepping up scheduled repairs and improvements. Just one of the projects completed during the COVID-19 health emergency is the West Citrus Community Center roof repair. It was in the County Improvement Plan budget at a cost not to exceed $50,000. The project, scheduled to be completed sometime this year or in 2021, was able to be moved up on the list while the senior center was closed.

The roof repairs began on April 21 and were completed May 7, 2020 at the proposed cost. By completing the project while the building was closed, it shortened the timeline and saved any inconvenience to the seniors who visit the center daily for lunch and activities during normal times.

The community centers help seniors remain healthy and active through participation in recreational, educational, leisure and daily senior dining program activities. The community centers also offer volunteer opportunities where people can contribute their experience and skills in meaningful and satisfying ways. The West Citrus Community Center typically is attended by forty seniors on a daily basis, with higher numbers when special activities and events are held.
