Aviation Division

The Board of County Commissioners maintains two general aviation airports. One on the west side of the County near Crystal River and one on the east side of the County near Inverness.

The Citrus County Public Works Department is responsible for the upkeep of both airports, while Crystal Aero Group, Inc. manages the daily operations of the Crystal River Airport and Right Rudder Aviation manages the daily operations of the Inverness Airport.

Both airports are undergoing improvements in regards to safety and meeting the growing needs of the community. The Aviation Projects to upgrade the airports are a joint financial effort of the Federal Aviation Administration, Florida Department of Transportation, and Citrus County.

Citrus County has a long-standing tradition as an aviation community. That tradition continues today with aviation as a strong economic driver for the community. According to a 2022 FDOT Aviation Economic Impact Study, Inverness Airport had an economic output of $68.8 million and Crystal River Airport’s economic output was $54.7 million.
