The Division of Solid Waste Management is committed to providing all Citrus County residents and businesses with safe and secure long-term disposal of solid waste in an environmentally sound manner that is comprehensive and cost-effective.
Our Landfill is a modern engineered double lined facility that accepts over 130,000 tons of household, commercial, and industrial waste per year. The Solid Waste Division is operated in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The Solid Waste Fund is one of Citrus County’s enterprise funds and as such is a self-supporting operation that does not receive any funds from the County’s general fund. Revenues are generated by user fees charged at the Landfill, a Solid Waste assessment on each residential unit in the County ($27 per year), and a Disposal Service Unit fee (DSU) charged to businesses @ a rate of $1.25/cu. yd.
This allows the County to provide program services such as Single-Stream Recycling, Bulky Item Disposal, Household Hazardous Waste, Litter Pick-up, Adopt-A-Highway, and Snag ‘N’ Bag Aquatic Litter for County Residents in addition to Future Solid Waste Planning, Construction, and Capital Projects.
